On this page we will provide some tips that can improve the performance of your computer and give you ideas you can use with your system.

Computer Operations

Try not to open too many programs while working on your computer. The more things that are open, the slower your system will run.

Good anti-virus software is a must in todays computer world.  A real solution is one that stops the virus attacks, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and doesn't prevent you from using your computer normally (e.g. slow response, stops connections in the office, prevents wanted email).  There are a number of good packages out there, we have been particularly impressed with EZAntivirus from Computer Associates.  In fact you will find a link to it on our links page (and yes we benefit if you buy it) but it is there because it works, it's reasonably priced, and most of all it doesn't get in the way!!!!!

The reliable service life of most computers is about 5 years.  Plan on replacing your computer before it hits the 5 year mark and you should be mostly worry free.

Printers

When you purchase a new printer, remember to add it to the list of printers for your computer. This will allow you to print on your new printer.

Internet

"Phishing" these scams are used to trick you into providing sensitive information to steal from you.  Some good steps to remember are:
Never respond to unsolicited e-mail asking your for personal/finiancial information.
Do not click on a provided link or use a telephone number provided in an unsolicited e-mail regardless of how urgent it sounds, how legitimate it looks, or how touching the message may be.  Use a known good contact number to verify any information or issues. AND DO NOT provide personal/financial information that a legitimate representative of a company would already have on you.
If you suspect phising contact the Internet Crime Complain Center at www.ifccfbi.gov
